The issue of repair and rehabilitation of books has never been taken very seriously even in today's modern technology binding. Menders and binders do not bother about durability of binding. They use int\ferior quality of preservative materials and adhensives. Repair and rehabilitation of a document in orginal format is more durable and useful than difitization of an antique docment/book, moreover physical conservation is essential before digitization.

This book is expected to be considered as a text book as well as workshop manual where large nu,ber of diagrams and illustration are incorporated to explain and illustrate the procedure of repair and rehabilitation of books, which will help craftmen, conservation trainees and library personnel in careful preservation and conservation techniques. As of now, these techniques are confined to large depository libraries like the national library, kolkata, the national archives, new delhi, the asistic society, kolkata etc. This book will disseminate the concepts and techniques of restoration functions to persons conncevted with other areas of libraries, archives and those who are interested to know and learn more about the conservation of books but are not aware of modern conservation techniques.
